FAMILY HOLIDAYS IN THE LAKE DISTRICT

With 18 acres of National Park to roam, Ullswater on your doorstep, a library, treatment rooms and a warm pool, The Lake has inspiration for everyone. All the family, from parents and teens, toddlers, babies and their grandparents can have a holiday here they’ll love. We know that for many of you that means spending a lot of time together and a little time apart. And that while for some of you ‘holiday’ means having a massage in Swim Club, for others it means hanging out in trees and making new friends.

Children’s spaces

For children aged 3-12, our dedicated, activity-led, kids’ spaces are secure buildings within the grounds, including separate zones for different age groups. These areas are suited to a variety of activities including games, arts and crafts, puppet shows and storytelling.

The spaces extend to an outdoor play area and small woodland where children can start honing their forest and bush craft skills. The lake is not accessible to unaccompanied children.

Ofsted-registered, the kids’ space is run by experienced, qualified staff. All staff have valid DBS (formerly CRB) checks in place. Supervised sessions run daily.

Supervised sessions

Supervised sessions run daily and give your children the chance to be independent while you take some time for yourself. Our team create daily activities for the children in a safe environment. Evening supervision gives you opportunity to get to Swim Club or dine together, after the children have been to Early Supper. Activities include bush craft, cookery workshops and role play.

All are fresh, healthy and home cooked and both restaurants have high chairs. Secure parents’ kitchens are in the hotel with a microwave, washing up facilities and fridge.

Early Supper is in Rampsbeck Restaurant each evening between 5pm-6pm. The dishes are served buffet style and created for children up to 12 years old, including children’s favourites and healthier options. There is no extra charge for those staying on a dinner inclusive basis.

Baby monitoring

Our tablet baby monitoring and telephone baby listening service can be used in Rampsbeck Restaurant and The Living Space. However, if using the service, you are not permitted to leave the hotel grounds.

Sports for children on Ullswater

We work with a range of different partners to provide water sports at The Lake. Kayaking, canoeing, wild swimming, sailing and stand-up paddleboarding (SUP) are some of the most popular watersports in the Lake District. You can join in our lessons and be collected from our private jetty. Children five years and over are able to book lessons for SUP, kayaking or canoeing and sailing leaving you ready to explore as a family. All children under 18 years must be accompanies by a parent or guardian.
