Good food is at the heart of Another Place – as is the chance to come together round a table, fire pit or picnic. Neil Haydock, our Lancashire-born head chef, draws on his roots, worldwide travels, vegetable patch and herb garden to create inventive, hearty food with integrity. Food and drink is available in The Living Space and the restaurant while a range of off-the-grid options enable you to eat well outside.
The Living Space is a place for eating, meeting and lounging on sofas. Its food is fresh, bold and distinctive. Dishes change with the seasons, making use of regional produce to create British and European flavours. Expect the likes of fried squid, burgers and fries, mussels, salads, fresh pasta and doorstep sandwiches – on small, large, sharing and kids’ plates.
The bar serves all the usual suspects, including champagne, wine, coffee, cocktails and our favourite – a range of perky gins. The bright, comfortable space has doors onto the terrace where The Living Space goes open-air.
Our restaurant is a relaxed, ambient space with an open kitchen and views of the lake. Here is where dinner is served to guests and visitors.
The three-course menu, which includes some sharing plates, features contemporary food inspired by the region’s traditional produce – the likes of Herdwick lamb, Morecambe Bay shrimp and Cumberland sausage. Much of the meat and fish is cooked in a charcoal oven, bringing out the intensity of their natural flavour. Puddings, meanwhile, resemble the puddings chef’s mum made – think bread and butter pudding, fruit crumble and rhubarb fool.
At breakfast the restaurant becomes an open pantry. On the shelves are pastries, freshly squeezed juices, fruit, yoghurt, fresh smoothies, organic muesli, cereals, jam, curd, smoked salmon, deli meats, toast and bagels… From le Creuset pots on the open pass you can dish a full English – while chefs whip you up an omelette, or make you porridge. The main event, though, is waffles – made by you in our waffle irons with your favourite combination of toppings. As well as a range of teas and rich hot chocolate, we serve American drip coffee in old-style enamel coffee pots.
Being off the beaten track, we do off-the-grid food for days you plan to spend outside. Lunch to go, which you can order a day ahead, includes fresh sandwiches, Chorley cake, cold drinks and a flask of coffee.
For picnickers, we do picnic hampers packed with delicious fresh food as well as a rug, crockery and cutlery. Down by the lake, you can gather round a fire pit or barbecue – cook the food yourself, or get chef to cook it for you.
