Our impact journey
Another Place hotels are firmly rooted in their unique and exceptional locations. With an active connection to our landscape, we’re committed to minimising our impact, nurturing our people and letting our environment thrive.
From GAP year programmes to local sourcing and making the most of our ‘no dig’ kitchen garden, we want to use our business as a force for good, both environmentally and socially. Our activity focuses on three key themes: conservation, circular and community. We’re also working hard to become B Corp certified across our hotels in 2025.
Join us on our journey...
Circularity
Giving back what we get out. From sourcing green energy to reducing single-use plastic, discover how we're embracing a circular approach to how we operate, consume resources and manage waste.

Patch to plate
Seasonal produce from our vegetable patch and local suppliers inspires our evolving menus.

Organic matters
Organic food waste and coffee grounds are put to good use as compost for our green spaces.

Reducing single-use plastics
You’ll find reusable carafes of UV-filtered water in our rooms instead of bottles, and no plastic straws, picks or stirrers.

land&water
Bath and body care bottles in our hotels are refilled after use, made from 100% post-consumer recycled plastic, and are fully recyclable.

Green energy
Whether sourcing energy from 100% renewable sources, or utilising our own organic waste in our on-site biomass boiler, we're finding innovative ways to reduce our energy demand and keep our energy green.

Electric vehicle charging
You'll find EV chargers at both of our hotels, whilst at The Machrie our golf buggies are also electric.
Conservation
Conserving the earth’s natural resources is vital for our sustainable future. Read more about how we're working hard to minimise our ecological footprint here.

Keeping it local
We're keeping food miles to a minimum - from The Machrie's home baked bread, to growing our own, and sourcing local wherever we can.

Breaking new ground
Embracing sustainable methods such as the no-dig and forest gardening approach to support the ecosystems of our soil and gardens

Eco-friendly cleaning
From our no-chlorine UV filtered swimming pool, to choosing cleaning products based on their sustainability credentials from manufacture through to disposal, we're striving to create healthier environments and healthier people.

Biodiversity and regenerative initiatives
Working with local experts to support regenerative land management of our grounds.

Supporting local wildlife organisations
Working in partnership with our local RSPB and Penrith & District Red Squirrel Group to protect species on our grounds

Green energy
The energy powering every Another Place stay comes from wind turbines, biomass generators, solar panels and hydroelectric sources via our energy partner brook green supply. Our move away from fossil fuels extends to using a biomass boiler for heating.
Community
Building long-lasting relationships with the businesses we partner with, our internal team and our hotel guests, we're committed to nurturing our people so that our communities can thrive.

You Days
Two paid days each calendar year for our team members to have off on us: one on your birthday, and one to pursue a passion and give back to a local charity or cause.

Working well
From free sauna and sound bath sessions, to festive wreathmaking, charity cake bakes, team cold swims (and hot chocolate afterwards) – we organise events during the year when our team can look after their health, body and mind during the working week.

Cycle2work
All of our team members can save up to 48% on the cost of a bike and cycling equipment.

Eclectic effect
Our team brings an eclectic mix of ideas, perspectives and culture to life at our hotels.

Mental health at work
We've signed up to the Burnt Chef Project and the MIND Mental Health at Work commitment - all designed to support our teams’ mental health.

Degree Management Apprenticeship
Supporting a three-year chartered degree, including one-day a week paid on campus, and four days a week paid working in our hotels.

Community business links
Working with local experts to deliver authentic experiences and support our local economy; from Colin our open-water swimming expert, to Adrian at Ullswater Paddle and Al at Verey Books.

A house to call home
And a mini-bus to get you to work.

Resetting shifts
Another Place is all about the balance of life, and our flexible working hours reflect this.

Perks and benefits
Whether it's training opportunities to enhance your career, or special rates for you, your friends and family to eat and stay at Another Place or treat yourself in Swim Club, we offer a competitive range of benefits for our team.

Senior citizen lunch & movie club
At The Machrie, our senior citizen lunch club followed by a latest-release movie in our screening room is a popular date in the diary for our local community. Every last Friday of the month.

Supporting hidden heroes
We’ve partnered with Room to Reward - a unique volunteer-recognition charity created to say ‘thank you’ to inspirational volunteers who give up their time to make a difference to those who need it most. Click here to find out more about how the scheme works.
