Treetops, rhododendron glades, stars over Ullswater… Outside is our latest collection of new rooms and spaces within the hotel grounds, designed to bring guests closer to the wild.
When staying in the shepherd huts and treehouse you also have access to Swim Club with the lake-view pool and outdoor hot tub, the library, Kids’ Zone and our two restaurants.
Six handcrafted shepherd huts
Expertly crafted at Blackdown Shepherd Huts using sustainable French oak cladding, the double-braced huts have stargazing roofs over kingsize double beds, a lounge area with a log burner. Stare at the stars while cosy under the covers, then sip your morning coffee on your garden terrace.
The couple huts have copper baths in front of double windows; the family huts have an extra bunk room for two children. All are secluded within the rhododendrons with generous views of the lake and have outdoor fire pits.
The shepherd huts are all dog friendly. From £480 a night.
A treehouse amongst the oak trees
Hidden in a seculded spot within the hotel grounds and connected by a walkway, a large double bedroom and twin bedroom look out onto floor-to-ceiling views across the grounds to the lake and fells beyond. The treehouse is our largest suite.
Soak your worries away in the freestanding bath that sits on the deck. Step inside to the inviting sofa area, log burner and reclaimed oak floors that reveal a thoughtful design approach. Concrete-free, the wooden frame blends into the surrounding mature trees.

The Victorian Glasshouse
Our Glasshouse restaurant is the closest building to the water’s edge with panoramic views to the fells.
Serving Cumbrian, fish and vegetarian mezze sharing platters, local cheese boards and hand picked paired wines from midday to 8pm.
Sheep shed
The sheep shed lakeside cabin is for year-round changing, warm showers and post-swim wetsuit drying.
It’s our base for our lake sports and a place to meet our expert instructors. Try open water and wild swimming, stand-up paddleboard and kayak sessions, or just pick up a wetsuit, float and some boots and take to the lake.
Fellside Sauna
Whether it’s quiet solitude or a chance to tap into sauna’s sociable side, we’re welcoming an autumnal residency down where lake waters meet the shore with Fellside Sauna.
The gardens
Another Place and our outside rooms sit within 18 acres of National Parkland along the shores of Ullswater.
The gardens have been designed by Landscape Architect, Laurel Truscott, to be a haven for biodiversity including bees and butterflies, as well as a multisensory approach.
A sanctuary of seasonal scents, shapes and colours from long grasses, lavender and wildflowers.
