Freshly landed seafood served on the terrace. Far-stretching empty sands. Cool clear waters inviting you in. On Islay, “Queen of the Hebrides” – and one of the easiest to reach islands off the west coast of Scotland – adventure, awe and a landscape teeming with wildlife await among the rugged Rhinns and sheltered bays.
World-class golf
The Machrie, Islay is an iconic Scottish championship links stretching to over 7000 yards from the back tees. An original Willie Campbell design dating back to 1891, it is now a masterpiece redesigned by D J Russell and a unique experience designed to enhance the drama of the natural coastal landscape. The Machrie, Islay golf course is ranked in Golf World’s Top 100.
State-of-the-art practice facilities, the Wee course, a six-hole, par 3 course, for perfecting the short game and our latest edition The Hebrides, social putting course.
This year we have three golf competitions on the championship links —Machrie Four-Ball Championship, The Machrie Open, and Machrie Team Championship.
Islay
The Queen of The Hebrides
Just off the Atlantic west coast of Scotland, Islay’s natural landscape, sandy beaches and rugged coastline have been shaped by the Scottish elements. 23 beaches. Abundant wildlife. Nine whisky distilleries. Weaving bike tracks on untrodden sands, cutting across the deep on a wildlife boat trip, toasting the sunset with an island-made whisky on the dune deck.
