Looking for places to visit in the Lake District? As well as its beautiful scenery, the Lake District has a rich mix of heritage and cultural attractions as part of the UNESCO World Heritage site. It also offers plenty of family and dog-friendly places to visit. Here are our favourites.

Join the celebration of all things marmalade, with a series of talks and panels on marmalade making, beginning with the announcement of the category and overall winners.
Learn how sheepdogs are trained from youngsters to fully trained dogs. See the dogs run the sheep around a typical trial course. The demonstration will finish with two dogs working as a brace team. Demonstrations will be held every Thursday throughout May, June, July, August & September at 6pm regardless of the weather and will last approximately 1 hour.
Things to do in the lakes
Hiking Highs
Walking days with a team of qualified Mountain Leaders taking you to some of the less-known routes around the Lakes. Climb Scafell Pike, the highest summit in England or conquer the Helvellyn summit.
Walk, hike and ramble
Feel the spray at Aira Force waterfall, ramble around Ullswater lake, take in the panoramic views from the top of Hallin Fell. Our walking routes vary from easy family-friendly options to the highest fell.
Lowther Castle & Gardens
Exhibitions, gardens, cycling, woodland adventure playgrounds in the Lost Castle, food, and a sustainable, wildlife-focused estate park. Open to families of all ages.
Wild swimming
Spend some time exploring the water with expert outdoor swimming instructor, Colin Hill. Clamber and leap around the craggy bay of Kailpot, or try our cold water or stargazing swims.
Ullswater Way
A 20-mile long walking route circumnavigating the lake that can be split into shorter more manageable sections using an open-top bus, or the Ullswater Steamers.
Cathedral Cavern
A labyrinth of chambers, tunnels and caverns formed by inter-linked quarries above Little Langdale. The main chamber is an impressive forty feet in height and one tunnel is 400 feet in length.
Ullswater Steamers
Cruise the nine miles of Ullswater with stops at Glenridding, Pooley Bridge, Aira Force pier and Howtown. The closest stop to Another Place is Pooley Bridge. The steamer boats run daily
Honister Slate Mine
England’s last working slate mine provides the backdrop for some unique adventures on an iconic Lake District mountain. Take a mine tour, brave the Infinity Bridge, or the Via Ferrata.
Honister Pass
A steep mountain pass rising to 1,194ft above sea level. The snaking 3.7-mile road starts at Buttermere and links to Borrowdale valley. Honister Slate Mine marks the summit.
Rheged centre
The Rheged Centre is just three miles from Another Place. Focused on family, food, arts and culture. It has a large 3D cinema and a varied calendar of events including exhibitions and live streaming.
Dalemain Estate
Two or three miles from the Pooley Bridge end of Ullswater, Dalemein Estate has been in the Hasell family since 1679. The historic gardens, tearoom and shop are open Sunday to Friday.
Haweswater Valley
The Haweswater valley is a beautifully wild and secluded corner of the National Park that offers plentiful opportunities for wildlife encounters. Look closely with an expert-led experience.
Swim under a full moon
Glide through the lake by the light of a full moon, or perfect your form in our endless pool; this is the summer for swimming like you’ve never swum before. Stroke by stroke.
Wild Intrigue
Breakfast with red squirrels, osprey watching, beavers, bats and frogs. Wild Intrigue hosts a range of wildlife experiences and events to inspire, educate and rewild through the discovery of British wildlife.
Brougham Castle
An English Heritage medieval castle, two miles south east of Penrith. Founded in the early 13th century, the castle is a maze of passageways and spiral stairways.
Alpacaly ever after…
For a touch of the surreal, take a llama for a trek across the Newlands Valley. Journey to the summit of Catbells and Maiden moor, with a llama as your guide.
Discover Beatrix Potter
Beatrix Potter made the Lake District her home, protecting it for generations to come. Visit the farm and nearby Hawkeshead, or for younger ones try The World of Beatrix Potter.
Patterdale Tennis Club
Book a court to “pay and play” across two refurbished tennis courts in Patterdale on the King George V playing field. A 15 minute drive from the hotel to Patterdale.
Castlerigg stone circle
Set against the looming mountains, the 5,000 year old Castlerigg stone circle makes for a magical sight. A good place to ponder life’s mysteries – or play an excellent game of hide-and-seek.
Theatre by the Lake
Theatre by the Lake has an eclectic line-up of productions taking place throughout the year, from musicals to comedies, outdoor festivals to screenings. There is always something on for everyone.
Discover William Wordsworth
William Wordsworth was born in Cockermouth in 1770. Visit Dove Cottage, Wordsworth’s family home, explore the garden and orchard behind and learn about his story in the museum.
Hadrian’s Wall

Long Meg & Her Daughters
Long Meg and Her Daughters is the second largest stone circle in England. Long Meg is an outlying stone of red sandstone marked with examples of megalithic art.
Treetop Trek & Nets
Treetop Trek is a treetop adventure, 40 minutes from Another Place. Swing, climb and balance your way through the woodland canopy then race down the 250m triple zip wire.
