Introducing Willow cottage

(3 minute read)

Designed by Lynsey Ford, winner of Interior Design Master 2021.

Willow cottage is our two-bedroom family suite designed by 2021 Interior Design Masters winner, Lynsey Ford. Drawing inspiration from the views outside, Lynsey has redesigned Willow cottage to bring the energy, colour and texture of the Lakes landscape inside.

Lynsey’s vision

The design for the cottage is all about emphasising the location by giving maximum connection to the surroundings. The views have been opened by enlarging the windows and making a dual aspect feature that brings the energy, colours and textures of the environment the cottage sits in, into the spaces.

Design details

One element of the brief was to include a reading nook which Lynsey has achieved with a chaise day bed.

There is a large radiator on the wall, Lynsey designed a radiator cover that extends the length of the wall and provides a shelf for books for the reading nook.

After you have been on your lake paddleboard or long walk you get back, kick off your muddy boots and the spaces give you an environment to feel warm, cosy and relaxed with the right amount of luxury. The cottage has a wood burning fire and I’ve used warm rusty tones, natural materials and lighting to make the space for rest, play, to be filled with energy and having fun.

Sustainable suppliers and artists

Sustainable suppliers are part of the design ethos, “sustainability is integral to all my work.” Says Lynsey, “I hate waste and the thought of anything useable going to landfill. So, I’ve chosen cabinetry from the Renzo range by Daval for part of the scheme as they are made from 100 per cent recycled materials, meaning I can balance my keen interest in sustainable design while still achieving the deep, rich and textured aesthetic I want to create.” Lynsey worked with Daval to create a boot room to kick off muddy wellies after a day out walking too.

A bespoke mural wallpaper was specifically designed by Julia Ogden for one of the walls, a special piece that reflects the greens and rusty oranges outside.

Paint – Farrow and Ball, Railings and Sudio Green. Lynsey decided to choose a dark colour so that the views really stand out
