Fells and Flow festival

On 13 September 2025 we partnered with The Lake District Foundation to create the first one-day Fells and Flow festival. A day of wild swims, yoga, paddleboarding, guided walks, inspiring talks and family fun—everything designed to deepen our connection with the landscape, the lake, and each other.

We were delighted to welcome bestselling author Jo Moseley, who spoke about her love of the Lake District, her special connection to Ullswater and Another Place, The Lake, and how paddleboarding has transformed her life. We sat down with Jo to find out more.

Thank you for being part of the Fells and Flow Festival, Jo. How did you enjoy the day?

Oh, thank you so much! I absolutely loved the Fells and Flow Festival. The setting was stunning—it really encouraged uplifting conversations, inspiring talks and meaningful connections. I loved hearing about Kate Rawles’ cycling adventures, Harrison Ward’s healing journey and delicious cooking, the Eden Rivers Trust’s work protecting the Lakes, and Colin Hill’s incredible swimming feats.

It was wonderful to see people returning from the lake, sauna or yoga with huge smiles on their faces. I left feeling even more committed to supporting the Lake District Foundation. It was such a special day—one I’ll always treasure.

We have your second book in the hotel and know you love the Lake District—can you tell us more?

Thank you so much for offering my second book, Stand Up Paddleboarding in the Lake District – Beautiful Places to Paddleboard in Cumbria, for sale in the hotel. I spent a year researching it—finding the best places to launch and explore, cafés, bookshops, car parks and bus routes, plus lots of information on the history, geology, conservation, literary connections and culture of the Lakes. It was a real labour of love, and I was honoured that it won the Lakeland Book Awards Zeffirellis Guides and Places Award this summer. It’s also full of beautiful photography by local photographer James Kirby. The response has been wonderful.

We understand you’ve written about Another Place, The Lake in the book too?

Yes! I recommended Adrian and his team at Ullswater Paddleboarding, based at Another Place, The Lake, in my first book Stand Up Paddleboarding in Great Britain – Beautiful Places to Paddleboard in England, Scotland and Wales. In my second book, I go into more detail about exploring Ullswater and stopping en route for a drink one August afternoon. I also spent many happy hours writing in the gorgeous Library when it was too wet or windy to paddle. James and I came for a special photo shoot one day when a huge rainbow arched over the lake. Ullswater is a magnificent place—England’s second largest and third deepest lake. With its three distinct stretches forming a dog-leg shape, it offers so many different areas to explore by paddleboard.

You spoke about the benefits of paddleboarding for our mental, physical, emotional and social wellbeing during your Fells and Flow talk, and showed us your new book Adventures on the Water – The Power of Paddleboarding to Change Lives. Can you tell us a little more about it?

Thank you! Adventures on the Water is a beautiful, curated collection of 25 personal essays from inspiring paddlers who’ve shared how SUP (stand-up paddleboarding) has brought them confidence, joy, community, purpose, friendship and wellbeing. I’ve also included my own story—becoming the first woman, aged 54, to paddleboard coast to coast in 2019, picking up litter and fundraising along the way.

The book also explores the science of ‘blue mind’ and how paddleboarding can help us live happier, healthier lives. There’s a resource section too, with favourite locations, kit, snacks and top tips from the paddlers. I’m so proud to share their stories—it’s a great read for anyone who loves being by, on or in the water. It was a joy to share it for the first time at the Fells and Flow Festival, just before publication.

What’s your top paddleboarding tip?

My top tip is always to have a lesson—or a few—with a qualified instructor. It’s the best investment you can make in your safety, confidence and enjoyment. And of course, if you’re coming to Another Place, The Lake, you’ve got the brilliant Adrian and his team at Ullswater Paddleboarding to help you get started or improve your technique. You couldn’t be in better hands.
