Things to do in spring
Full Moon Swim – 9 March
The worm full moon will be in the sky around 6pm on March 9. Named after the tracks made by earthworms on the thawed grounds at this time of the year, the enlarged moon should cast a good light over the lake. To take advantage of this supermoon we will be holding our very first full moon night swim, with light-up tow floats and glow sticks.
Malcolm Wilson Rally – 14 March
M-Sport are holding their forest stage rally at nearby Whinlatter, just 20 minutes drive from the hotel. Watch from the relative safety and comfort of the forest and retreat back to the Whinlatter Visitor Centre for coffee and cake at Siskins café.
Marmalade Festival – 14 March
You may spot some unusual sights if you head down to Ullswater at this time of year. Dalemain are holding their annual Marmalade Festival, full of cookery demonstrations teaching you how to make treats like marmalade chocolate and the marmalade Olympics. Keep your eyes peeled for Paddington and the orange sheep!
Forest Bathing – 22 March
Take time to connect with nature on this guided walk through Whinlatter, teaching you the Japanese art of Shinrin Yoku. There will be a tea ceremony and reflection at the end of the ceremony.
Full Moon Swim – 8 April
Swim under the Pink Moon (supermoon) this month. Named after the pink wild flowers that bloom in the desert at this time of the year, this late night swim begins from our jetty.
Badger Hide From – 15 April
Our friends at RSPB Haweswater have created a purpose-build hide to see badgers in their natural habitat. Watch from down at eye level as the badgers emerge from their setts in the fells to feed and socialise.

Gather beneath the night sky and explore the constellations amongst the Lake District fells. Well-known astronomer, Robert Ince, will guide you on your journey along the Milky Way. Hopefully you will catch the Lyrids meteor shower, one of the oldest recorded.
