DALEMAIN WALKING LOOP

A mostly flat 8km walk around the Dalemain estate, Dacre churchyard and castle. A short drive from the hotel.

Description:
Offering a different perspective to the Ullswater Valley, this walk takes you along the banks of the river Eamont and to historic villages, passing through ancient pastures on the way. It’s a relatively flat and family-friendly loop, with Dalemain Mansion & Historic Gardens and Dacre Castle en route, although not all stretches of the walk are suitable for pushchairs.

Difficulty:
Medium. A good distance, but mostly flat.

Directions:
From the hotel drive towards Penrith, You can start in Pooley Bridge, Dalemain mansion or even Dacre village. All of these locations are about a 5-10 minute drive, or catch the bus from the top of the hotel driveway.

What to bring:
Good sturdy walking shoes, drink and snacks. Sun cream, a hat, a camera.

A walk full of history

This walk is ideal for those that want to see the varied landscape that the Lake District has to offer without having to climb too high. Taking in river banks, lush green pastures and with a mansion and a castle, there is something spectacular to see around each corner of this walk. Take a picnic and find a cool spot under an ancient oak tree or stop by at either Pooley Bridge or Dacre for something to eat in one of their country pubs or the tea rooms at Dalemain.

Historic markers along the way include the Dacre Castle and the medieval stone bears that can be found in Dacre church yard. You will at some point on the walk pass Dalemain, which is a beautiful country mansion which is stooped in history and has belonged to the same family since 1679.
