Walks on Islay
Loch Gruinart is a reserve trail on the east coast of Islay. The route is a short walk-through woodland, opening out onto a viewing platform overlooking Loch Gruinart. A bird watchers paradise, Loch Gruinart is home to a variety of birds, but is also full of beautiful plants like sundews, Bog Asphodel and wild orchids. Take a picnic and find a spot along the path to stop and take in the scenery.

Length: A 1.5 mile walk through woodland to a viewing platform overlooking Loch Gruinart.
Directions: Heading north, Loch Gruinart is an approximate 35 minute drive from Another Place, The Machrie.
What to bring: Weather appropriate clothing, sun cream, walking boots or similar footwear, a camera, a drink.
Guided walks: Guided walks at RSPB Loch Gruinart are every Thursday at 10am and last approximately two hours. Meet at the visitor centre car park at RSPB Loch Gruinart.

Each year, we see Greenland Barnacle and Greenland White-fronted Geese, Corncrakes, hares, Hen Harriers, Otters, Lapwings, and many insects too."
