This summer we’re heading to Scotland…
Striking out from our original home on Ullswater, this summer, we’re heading north and curating a special island adventure for you at The Machrie on Islay – “the Queen of the Hebrides” – in Scotland.
23 beaches. Abundant wildlife. Nine whisky distilleries. Endless summer twilight. For the month of August, we’re ‘staying over’ at The Machrie hotel – which sits above a seven-mile beach, rolling dunes and world-class links golf course – a unique experience in Islay’s extraordinary natural landscape.
A full itinerary
For the month of August we’re launching a unique three-night, four-day stay on Islay, including two nights’ dinner in the 18 Restaurant & Bar. Fatbike hire and a wildlife boat trip is all part of the experience exploring Islay.
Islay’s great outdoors
Drawing on The Machrie’s local knowledge, we’re working with the Islay community to create individual itineraries that encourage you to make the most of the island’s great outdoors.
- Cycle ‘Big Strand’ beach
- Sunset wildlife boat trips
- Famous distilleries and whisky tasting
- Tuk-tuk island exploration
- Golf tuition
- Cocktails and hare spotting from the dunes deck
- Coast path hiking
- Extensive hotel art collection
Endless opportunities to wild swim, stargaze, toast marshmallows and sip fireside cocktails on the beach, everything you’d expect at Another Place, The Lake.
The Machrie on Islay
Islay is just a 25-minute flight from Glasgow airport, although the ‘slow travel’ option by road to Kennacraig through Loch Lomond National Park, and that first glimpse of Islay from the ferry, is recommended for the impressive scenery.
With its remote and elemental setting, beautiful interiors, and focus on local food and sustainability, The Machrie and Another Place are kindred spirits.
The Machrie is included in the UK’s Top 30 Hotels in the Condé Nast Traveller Reader’s Choice Awards 2022, and The Machrie’s golf course is ranked in Golf World’s Top 100, and No 6 in Europe by Leading Courses.
