10 Ways To Have a Perfect Stay At Another Place, The Lake

By Hand Luggage Only

The Lake District needs little introduction and with its recent classification as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, there’s no excuse not to visit this pristine corner of northern England.

It feels a million miles away from the hustle and bustle of London but travel time is less than 3.5 hours by train, or even less if you’re travelling from Manchester, Edinburgh or Glasgow. The lakes are truly one of England’s most stunning areas of natural beauty and what better way to experience this incredible region than by immersing yourself in the gorgeous scenery, incredible food and a stunning hotel.

Of course, if you’re heading to the Lake District, the biggest decision to make is where to stay – With being one of the largest (and tranquil) lakes, away from the hive of activity around some of the other lakes.

Perched right on the edge of Ullswater Another Place, The Lake is the new kid on the block. Having just opened its doors for us to indulge in all things sumptuous, relaxing and idyllic.

1.) Stand up paddleboarding

One of the best things about Ullswater is that it’s much quieter than the likes of Windermere which can get pretty hectic, especially in the summer months. This quietness makes for a perfect spot to brush up your skills, paddleboarding across the lake, with no fear of jet skis or high-powered boats on the lake.

Pick up a wetsuit, grab a board and head off with one of the qualified instructors to experience the lake’s tranquillity. It’s captivating.

2.) Gorge at The Living Space

One of the best things about Another Place is its relaxed atmosphere, The Living Space is a great spot to grab a dish made from the best Cumbrian produce. I’m a firm believer that local produce should always be celebrated and the chef and their team do this so well.

This is your holiday, so make sure you indulge in some of their delicious scones, clotted cream and jam. Gorge on these unapologetically, with no guilt or remorse.

3.) Hike up Hallin Fell

Another Place has a diverse mix of trails, hikes and walks right on the doorstep that will suit almost all abilities.

To enjoy one of the best views of Ullswater Lake, head up to the top of Hallin Fell that’s perfect for a morning ramble in the countryside. Take the Steamer to Howtown and head up around 380 metres to the summit of Hallin Fell. Make sure to pack plenty of water, a good pair of walking shoes and layer up – the wind can pick up the higher you get.

As with every little break, it’s always important to take some time to just chill. Something that is so easy to do in Another Place, The Lake. Take a wander around the 18-acres of national parkland the stunning manicured gardens and the lakeshore beach.

If you’re looking for something a little more indulgent, head to Swim Club for one of Another Place’s incredible Salt Scrubs that are perfect for a little afternoon treat.

5.) Canoe Lake Ullswater

The best way to explore Ullswater has to be from on the lake itself.  When you arrive (or before your stay), make sure to ask the Another Place team to secure you onto one of the canoe experiences. It’s not every day we get to canoe down England’s second-largest lake.

It’s a perfect few hours to switch off and leave your phone in your room, be away from any Wi-Fi signal and really immerse yourself within the ancient landscapes that the Lake District offers.

8.) Enjoy the Ullswater Steamer

Possibly one of the lakes oldest residents, the Ullwater Steamers have been around since the 19th Century. Once a steaming powerhouse that would take goods down the lake, it’s now a great experience for us visitors to experience. Whisk yourself off and stop at one of the many little ports of call. It’s a great way to explore the lake and its shoreline.

9.) Grab a room with a view

The hotel has some epic views across the lake and gardens, with a whopping ¼ mile of private shoreline just for guests.

The rooms are beautifully designed and really lend itself to the area – it almost feels as if the nature is creping into the room. Think, lots of wood, natural fibers, gorgeous knits and stunning bathrooms. You’ll have the most indulgent stays.

10.) Make waffles for breakfast

They say that breakfast is the most important meal of the day… and we couldn’t agree more. If you’re familiar with the epic breakfasts at the Watergate Bay Hotel, you’ll fall head over heels in love with the breakfasts at Another Place.

After a little lay in, make sure to work up an appetite and gorge on some of the freshly griddled waffles that are made on the spot.  They’re perfect with lashings of syrup and fresh fruit.

Now, if you’re hankering for a good old, English breakfast, chow down on a hearty plateful of bacon, eggs, sausages, hash browns and crusty toast (with lashings of butter).  You won’t be disappointed!
