Try a kayaking lesson with the children, or if alone time is needed, we have supervised activities in the Kids’ Zone so you can make time for a treatment this half term holiday.

Children's archery

Our coaches run through the basics of archery for children. Theory and safety, then shooting at targets a stone’s throw from our front door.

Archery is suitable for children 7 years and over.

Starting from the hotel, paddle and float your way around the lake in the company of a qualified instructor in either a kayak (adults) or a canoe (families) and take in all that the valley has to offer.

Family Stand Up Paddleboarding

A great family activity, Stand Up Paddleboarding is accessible, easy to learn and seriously fun. Our fully qualified instructors tailor every session. £30pp.

Young explorers can now take their navigation skills to the next level with canoe orienteering sessions.

This is a wild swimming adventure. Explore the secluded bay of Kailpot on Ullswater with expert tuition from Colin Hill. Children age 10-17 years need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian. All participants must be able to swim a minimum of 200m. £45pp.

Adult session 10+ years

Open water swimming in Ullswater

This is for anybody looking to improve their technique. Without the confines of a pool, the long swim allows you to get in to your stride, making points for improvement easy to identify. Children age 10-17 years need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian. All participants must be able to swim a minimum of 200m. £65pp

Push yourself using the safety and knowledge of Colin Hill, who has spent his career training athletes. Challenge yourself on a one-mile swim from one side of the lake to another. Children age 10-17 years need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian. All participants must be able to swim a minimum of 1km. £65pp

Halloween at Lowther Castle

Is there anything more scary than orienteering in a spooky forest at night? Why not find out? Whinlatter is a 25 minute drive from the hotel.  £2 for adults and £1 for children.

Friday 25 October

It wouldn’t be Halloween without a bit of pumpkin carving. For ages 4 and over, choose your gourd, then, with the assistance of local artist Kelly Gimson, create your own terrifying ghoul to chase the spirits away. £5.50 pp.



Starry sky and snow-capped fells in the Lake District

Friday 25 October

Learn about our Milky Way from Robert Ince. Light pollution is low in this area of the Lakes, so you will have the chance to gaze upon hundred, if not thousands more stars than more built up areas. Prices are £15 for adults and £7.50 for children, starts at 7.30PM

Lowther Halloween

Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 October

Set in the grounds, this ghoulish walk is guaranteed to make you scream. This year the Headless Gardener, The Axeman and The Knocker will be hidden deep in the dark forest, waiting. Top tip; this is a live theatre event and is truly terrifying. Attend to the earlier sessions if your children are under 8 years old. £10 per adult, £8 per child over 3.


Kids Zone October Half Term
