Try a kayaking lesson with the children, or if alone time is needed, we have supervised activities in the Kids’ Zone so you can make time for a treatment this half term holiday.

Kid’s Zone Activities

Our half term supervised sessions run from Saturday 25 May to Sunday 2 June;

3 – 7 years and 7 – 12 years

Daily afternoon supervision – 1.15pm to 3.45pm

(Except Saturdays 1pm to 3.30pm)

Daily evening supervision – 6.30pm to 10pm

Children's archery

Our coaches run through the basics of archery for children. Theory and safety, then shooting at targets a stone’s throw from our front door.

Saturday 25, Monday 27, Tuesday 28, Thursday 30 May and Saturday 1 June – 11.30am to 12.30pm

Archery is £5pp and suitable for children 7 years and over.

Starting from the hotel, paddle and float your way around the lake in the company of a qualified instructor in either a kayak (adults) or a canoe (families) and take in all that the valley has to offer for £30pp.

Stand-up paddleboarding on Ullswater

A beautiful way to see the lake and feel at home amongst the mountains. Suitable for beginners, our fully qualified instructors tailor every session. £30pp.

Kayaking on Ullswater

A great way of getting younger ones out onto the water. The whole family can join a fully qualified instructor in a guided canoe session around the lake. £30pp.

Explore the secluded bay of Kailpot on Ullswater with expert tuition from Colin Hill. A short boat-trip away, you will swim close to the lake shoreline, climbing rocks and crags to find the best spot to jump in. £35pp.

After a briefing on safety and technique, then our experience tutor, Colin Hill, will take you out in to the lake to teach you open-water best-practice and take in panoramic views of the fells. £35pp.

Push yourself using the safety and knowledge of Colin Hill, who has spent his career training athletes, keeping them safe in an open-water environment. Earn some serious respect points and enjoy your own self-satisfaction, able to say with confidence that you swam across a lake. £50pp.

In this show the children will discover what it takes to blast off into space, survive in zero gravity and make it back home safely. Discussing aerodynamics, the effect of gravity and the four forces of flight, you may very well have Britain’s next astronaut beginning their training at Rheged.

In true Mad Science style, they end their amazing display of experiments with an incredible (controlled!) rocket fuel explosion!

Haweswater Badger Hide is available for individual bookings, perfect for families, couples, or a sole-badger lovers! On these sessions you will have the added benefit of being accompanied by an RSPB Badger Guide who can tell you more about the individuals you are watching, as well as answering any questions about badgers that you may have.

Each Badger Watch lasts approximately 1.5 hours. Seating is provided, as is the option of enjoying a delicious hot drink to accompany your badger watch. Each Badger Watch coincides with the sunset times.

Another-Place-Guide-to-spotting-wildlife-in-the-Lake-District

Tuesday 28 May 1pm to 4pm

From red squirrels to salmon, deer to dragonflies, Swindale Valley is a haven for all sorts of wildlife, and with an expert on hand, you’ll have a much better chance to see and enjoy it.

On mostly level terrain, the walk will take in bubbling streams, flower rich meadows, shady woodlands, dramatic waterfalls and crags.

The walk will last approximately 3 hours, with rests throughout, and plenty of time to take photographs of the species and landscapes you discover.

Lowther Castle is working with Arragon’s to offer a top quality cycle-hire experience. There are miles of recommended cycle tracks that start from the castle for you to explore, including Askham Fell Loop.
