May half term activities

ON OUR DOORSTEP

Get active down at the lakeshore with a range of activities over May half term. Let the children off to try their hands at archery, star gaze on night walks or join you in the water for raft building.

Kids' Zone activities Another Place

ACTIVITIES IN KIDS’ ZONE

Throughout May half term there will be a series of exciting, age appropriate activities and games in our supervised sessions. Visit our cabin for fun and games like raft making, baking, playing with slime, and lots of crafts. Or go bug hunting, build a den, play french cricket and much more in our safari tent.

3-7 years & 7-12 years

Morning supervision – 10am to midday
Evening supervision – 6.30pm to 10pm

Archery

ARCHERY

Saturday 26 and Thursday 31 May  – 11am – 12pm

Our coaches run through the basics of archery for children. Theory and safety, then shooting at targets a stone’s throw from our front door.

Archery is suitable for children 7 years and over and is part of Kids’ Zone supervised sessions.

Stargazing in the Lake District - Ben Bush

GUIDED NIGHT WALKS

Thursday 31 May – 6.30pm – 8.30pm

Guided walks for children. Through the woods and fells around the Ullswater way, they’ll have head torches and the stars to light the way. Starting from the hotel, night walks are a wonderful way to gain a new perspective on our surroundings. Suitable for confident walkers aged 5 years and over.

Guided night walks are for the whole family and does not form part of the Kids’ Zone supervised sessions.

Raft building on Ullswater

RAFT BUILDING

Tuesday 29 May – 2pm – 3.30pm

Raft building out of barrels, posts and ropes with the whole family. Qualified instructors will be on hand to adjudicate and dispense handy advice, but the responsibility is still yours. Will it float? Find out as you set out on the lake.

Raft building is for the whole family and does not form part of the Kids’ Zone supervised sessions.

Cross Lake swim – easy pace, 9.30am – 10.30am
Cross Lake Swim – faster pace, 8am – 9am
0.75 miles, 12+ years, £40 per person

Open water – easy pace, 1 – 2pm
Open water – faster pace, 11 – 12pm
Introduction to open water, adults and children 12+ £30 per person, children under 12 will be charged £25. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

A great family activity, Stand Up Paddleboarding (SUPing) is accessible, easy to learn and seriously fun. Our fully qualified instructors tailor every session. There’s no age limit and no special skills are required.

Starting from the hotel, paddle and float your way around the lake in the company of a qualified instructor in either a kayak (adults) or a canoe (families) and take in all that the valley has to offer.

Think Vic & Bob with the mighty Boosh watching Horrible Histories! FOR KIDS! Liverpool’s first regular comedy club for kids, fresh from their monthly residency at the Bluecoat Arts, we will trundle out of Merseyside and up the M6 for our first event in Cumbria with you! We want your giggles, guffaws and chortles please, from the first sketch to the final legendary joke competition. This interactive Comedy Club show for kids is a ragtag bag of tomfoolery and nonsense with an alternative twist. Chaos and cacophony. Silliness and stupidity. Packed with sketches, sing along and quizzes and featuring some of the North West’s best character comedians and mirth wranglers.
Rules: No Swears, No Peanuts, No Uniform, Bring Jokes.

ACTION WEEK AT LOWTHER CASTLE

Saturday 26 May – Sunday 3 June

Action Man comes to Lowther for May half term and the tough get going. Survival is everything. Bring your camo kit, your children and your hardiest self and join in our week of outdoor challenge. Events include story-telling, den-building, archery, a jester, Penrith Town Band, football activities, Action Man Display, GNAA Display, Boy Scouts stand, Brownies stand, Lego walk of fire, falconry, bushcraft. Plus an outdoor trail for the cunning, the hardy, for your inner James Bond.

Join Theatre by the Lake for the 22nd Keswick Beer Festival and all that it is famous for, including over 200 unique Beers & Ciders, live bands each night and an unbeatable beer festival atmosphere, both inside the marquee and on the wonderful green of one of the most scenic rugby clubs in the country.

KESWICK MOUNTAIN FESTIVAL

Friday 8 – Sunday 10 June

Enjoy a fantastic mix of outdoor sports, activities and live music with the Keswick Mountain Festival.  Based in Crow Park on the banks of Derwentwater, each year the Festival inspires thousands of people to get outside and enjoy the outdoors.

With a variety of activities to choose from, there’s plenty of choice no matter what your age or ability. Families can take to the water, enjoy sporting activities and talks from the biggest names in outdoor adventure.

The more athletic can run, swim, cycle or combine all three in the triathlon, surrounded by the most stunning scenery and challenging terrain England has to offer. Races include 5-50k runs, open water swimming, triathlons, a cycling sportive and events for junior athletes. Inspiration comes in the form of top athletes, experts and local heroes in the speaker programme hosted at the theatre. Hear all about their adventures and pick up some tips for your own.

Swing by the Festival Village for a bite to eat, a local ale or two and party the night away with live bands on the Festival stage.
