When Household were designing the rooms in the existing house, they instinctively knew that it was important to retain some of the charm of the old Georgian residence, creating a blend of old and new. With this approach, they set out to update the bedrooms with some of the beautiful classical furniture pieces that already belonged there, offset with elements that would bring a contemporary edge to this Lake District hotel.
The first Suite to be decorated, originally named ‘Ullswater’ and probably one of the biggest Suites in the hotel, has a grandeur to the room that is difficult to ignore. The scale of the room called for something dramatic, and deserved to have the four poster bed retained. The drapes have been stripped back around the bed and refreshed with crisp, white bedlinen. The wallpaper sports a fantastic print that is at once heritage and bold. The golden hues work beautifully at sunset or sunrise.
